How do I log a symptom?
On the Diary page, tap the symptom you had, then tap how strong it was: a bud is mild, a bloom is moderate, a full flower is severe. That's it: it is written on today's page with the time, and Undo shows for a few seconds in case you tapped the wrong one. If it happened earlier, or you want to add a few words, tap the time or Add a note first, then the flower.
Where did Settings go?
Since version 2.1 it opens from the gear at the top right of the Diary page, so the tab bar is down to Diary, Calendar and Patterns.
What do the bud, bloom and flower mean?
They are the diary's way of saying mild, moderate and severe. A bud: you noticed it. A bloom: uncomfortable. A full flower: it had to stop you. The same three shapes mark your calendar, so a rough week is visible at a glance.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There's no sign-up and no login. You can start logging the moment you open the app.
Which symptoms can I track?
Hot flashes, night sweats, sleep problems, mood and irritability, anxiety, brain fog, fatigue, headaches, joint aches, heart palpitations, and your cycle. Since version 2.2 there is also an HRT card for your doses.
Is the app available in German?
Yes, from version 2.3. If your phone's language is German, the whole diary is in German: the greeting, the symptom cards, the Patterns summary, the doctor report PDF and the reminders. There is nothing to switch on. Other languages are not there yet; the app falls back to English.
Can I log my HRT?
Yes, from version 2.2. Tap more symptoms under the first six cards, then HRT, and choose taken, missed or changed (a new dose or a new product; add a note with the details). It is written on the day's page like any other line, but it never counts as a symptom: the calendar shading and the Patterns chart stay about how you felt. Your doctor report adds one sentence, for example "HRT was logged as taken 28 times and missed twice", so you and your GP can see what moved after the hormones did. Not on HRT? Hide the card under Settings, Symptoms.
My daily reminder arrives at the wrong time. What do I do?
Update to version 2.0.6 or later and open the app once. Earlier versions could send the reminder hours off (in the early morning in Australia) because it was set in the wrong time zone. From 2.0.6 it arrives at the time you chose, in your phone's own time zone, and your existing reminder is moved to the right time automatically.
Where is my data stored? Is it private?
Everything you log stays on your device. It is never uploaded to a server and we cannot see it. For full detail, see our Privacy Policy.
Does my data move between devices or get backed up?
Not in this version, by design. Your data lives only on the device it was entered on, so nothing about your symptoms ever leaves your phone. Cloud sync and an on-device backup file are planned for a future update.
How do I delete my data?
Tap any line on the diary page, or on a day in the Calendar, to edit it or cross it out. To delete everything, use Delete my whole diary in Settings. Deleting the app also removes everything stored on your device.
How can I rate the diary?
Open Settings (the gear on Today) and tap Rate Hot Flash Diary. It takes you to the App Store or Google Play page, where a quick rating helps others find the diary. Nothing about your diary is shared.
Why did the app ask me to rate it?
Only after you have used the diary for a while: on your fifth day with a saved entry, or after sharing a few doctor reports. It asks at most three times ever, never more than once in two months, and uses your phone's own rating sheet. Nothing about your diary is sent with it.
How do I see my symptom trends?
Open Patterns for the last 30 days: this month in a line, a bar for each day, and your top symptoms with how strong they usually are and when they tend to happen (tap Show all for the rest). The longer look back (90 days, 180 days, all time) is part of Premium.
How do I create a report to share with my doctor?
With Premium, tap Doctor report (PDF) on the Patterns page. You get one page in plain clinical language for the range you were looking at (change it with the range button at the top): what was logged, how often, how strong, and when it tends to happen. Share the PDF sits at the bottom of the page, with Preview or print under it.
What's free and what's Premium?
The diary itself is never behind a paywall: logging, your diary pages, the calendar and the 30-day Patterns view are free forever. Premium adds the longer look back (90 days, 180 days, all time) and the doctor report PDF.
Can I make it dark at night?
Yes. In Settings (the gear on the Diary page), tap Appearance and choose Light, Dark, or Auto at night, which dims the diary to the small hours after dark and brings the paper back in the morning.
How do I restore a purchase?
In Settings (the gear on the Diary page), tap Restore purchases. Your subscription is tied to your Apple or Google account, so this brings it back on a new device or after reinstalling.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by the App Store or Google Play, not inside the app:
I was charged but Premium isn't active.
First try Restore purchases in Settings. If it still doesn't unlock, email [email protected] with the date of purchase and we'll sort it out.
Email [email protected] and we'll reply as soon as we can.
